What Started It?

       I never thought that in my life, I'll be able to love books. I was dead wrong. Here's my story of how my life became a page turner ... all thanks to one book. 

"... it took me to a different world."

    Usually, I’m a person who has no interest in books at all. Well,that was before.

      Back when I was a child, from kindergarten to elementary, I liked to play, watch television, sleep, eat. That’s pretty much it. I couldn't really call them “my hobbies”.  I never truly focused on anything other than keeping my grades up. I didn’t have anything that I’m addicted to. Remembering all of these, it was such a DULL life.

 

      One time, in my old school, the place where I attended my kindergarten and elementary days, I saw a classmate of mine reading a book. I don’t remember the title though. It was not familiar to me due to the fact that it was not from the school. Moreover, maybe because I don’t  have an affection toward books. Days passed by, a lot of my classmates started bringing their own. I even thought back how my dad would lecture me about the beauty of reading and it’s importance. It was very mind boggling for me since I couldn't comprehend why they like it so much.

       Then another school year began. I was already a freshman high school student at a different school. Guess what? I was in the same situation as I was back then. I found out that about half of the batch’s population like BOOKS.

       During the foundation week of the school, there was a book fair event. The whole class went to visit. So I was roaming around that place, taking a look at some of those on the shelves. I just want to use the money I brought to good use. Then I came across a shelf, there, I was very fascinated at one book cover. It has such a mysterious feeling. The title was The Spiderwick Chronicles Book 1: The Field Guide. I scanned the pages and in my mind I said, “Hey, why not try one?”. Yeah, I bought it.

       Our teacher let the class stay at the library. I was reading the book and I was shocked that I kept turning the pages in a very fast manner every time I finished one. It took me to a different world. I felt my heart racing and I just could not stop. It was a different me. I finished the book, and surprised that it took me less than an hour because I completely enjoyed it. I finally understood my classmates.

      

      On the way home, I stared at it several times, still overwhelmed. At home, I shouted my heart out to my mom, sister and dad about how amazing the book was. Then, I searched through the internet and found out that there are still four books to finish the whole series. My mind kept yelling, “You HAVE to buy all of it!!!” I started to save money  for that and used my Christmas earnings. I was so happy that I was able to.

      After finishing the whole series, I realized that I want more. I want more page - turning books and heart raising moments. So, every time we go to the mall, I always request to go to our country's renowned bookstore to scan some books. I began to have my own collection of books. From Spiderwick to Inkheart to Thief Lord to etc. I began to research about the authors who wrote them. They inspire me, I even have the mere thought of writing my own.

     Now, I want to have my own library, collect, collect, collect! I also enjoy how my friends and I love to talk about books. One can persuade the other to read this or that and vice versa.

      That’s how I came to love books. 

               That’s how my life became a page-turner.
